Cyprus Cottage for Rent Klonari Easter

Easter is the most significant event in the Cyprus calendar.  At around 10:00 pm the villagers light a bonfire outside the church.  At 11:00 pm the mukti (equivalent to a village mayor, which is Maria in Klonari) chimes the church bell.  Most people then go to the service, although younger people may stand around the fire and light catherine wheels and other fireworks.  At around 11:45 there's a procession around the church and then people return inside by walking through a human archway (two people holding an icon of the church saint to form the arch).  At midnight a loud firework is let off and a communion service begins, followed by a barbecue.  Shops are not only closed on Easter Sunday, but also Monday and the vast majority on Tuesday.  Traditional food primarily consists of cheese bread and eggs died red.  Perfect Cyprus Cottage for rent - at the heart of traditional Cypriot life.
